Sarah D. Brown to James B. Burdick, 11 October 1867
Salem Oct 11th /67

Dear Cousin James
After an absence of a few months from home I have just arrived here on a visit. Father has just shown me a letter from you saying something in regard to the death of Aunt Adah & to wishing to know what we thought in regard to the Will. If we are informed aright the property that Aunt willed was not in reality her's to dispose of in that manner Grandpa's estate was with Uncle Joel at the time of his will. Then Uncle willed all to Aunt, his & what was left of Grandpas together

We children here of course do not wish to interfere if it is all right but it seems as if the children & Grand children of Grandpas were as legally entitled to it as those who have never helped earn any. How many children are there of your family? We are five, two boys & three girls. We are all married. The two brothers & one sister live here in Salem, one sister lives in Paris, & I live in Sugar Creek

My brothers names are as follows
Henry F. Brown & Joseph N. Brown.
address – Salem Station, Kenosha Co. Wis.
One sister Mrs Adah E. Butrick the address is as my brothers. Mrs Harriet E. Bishop address Kenosha City, Wis. Mine at the present time is Mrs Myron Schultz Sugar Creek Po. Walworth Co, Wisconsin. My brothers & sisters dislike to write very much but I wish you accept of me as a substitute for all & I will try / & inform you in regard to the feeling of all if possible. One of my sisters boys has written before this to the Postmaster. Whether his information is reliable or not I do not know. That was done before Father knew of it. Father would have answered it before this if it had not been that he has been sick & has also been married this fall so you see that his time for writing has been very limited. Why is Aunt Abbie at Mr Brown's. Does she not live with her husband? Wont you write me all the particulars? I will try & not neglect answering if you will do so. My brothers have never been in law with any one & they say they do not wish to be now. Did we all know just the circumstances I persume there would be a different feeling. All we girls with our husbands say / Let justice be done. Whatever is necessary for us to do, we are ready if we only know what it is. Dont fail to answer this immediately.

Father & we all send our love to you all. In haste I remain Your Cousin
