Missionary Ridge Tenn Nov the 23rd 1863
Dear Sister S.A.
I again imbrace the presant oppertunity of writing you a few lines in order to let you know how I & A.M. is getting along. we are both well this morning A.M. returned to his command on Friday the 19th the boys all came with him A.M. said that the Cavalry taken them all up & caried them to Troy pike Co & put them in jail & kept them one day & then they turned A.M. & James Daniel loos. the rest of the boys was still kept under a rest untell they got here A.M. said that he hardley had time to tell you all good by. you may all rest easey about A.M. he is all rite the Renfroe boys has not bin erested since they cam back I dont surposed that they will evr be put under gard at all. as for A.M. he is as free as I am, him & James Daniel.
G J Jones is in the bull penn yet he has had his Tryal, but I dont know what they are going to do with him. I was sorrow that A.M. did not bring me sompthing to eat I was very mutch in hops that he would bring me sompthing to eat but I am glad that he come out as well as he did
The boys are all genearley harty at presant we have had some very bad raney wether. But to day is a pretty fair day. The yankees has been shelling us to day they threw some shells rite over our Co. & one went though our A.D.G T offices, but as it happen he was about from his tent the bum fell in [paper hole] of our Col. I will tell you it was squal[paper hole] I expect to be killed. But they have quit shelling us Well Sis as I have told you about all I know I will quit our rations are very short. But I make out to live. Some think that this war will end in a short time. I hope that it will. I have not herd from non of the boys sence I wrote to you last. I was glad to get my cloths. I will close as I am in no fix for writing Sis you must do the best that you can for your self & Ma I cant be there to say any thing I will go home the first opportunity But ther is no chance for a furlough Send me some butter by Winston Andrews Nothing more
