Michael J. Minnick was born around 1798 in Pennsylvania to Mathias and Catherine Minnick. His father was a farmer who owned $11,500 of real estate in 1850. He married Lydia Henry in York County, Pennsylvania, on December 10, 1818, and they had at least nine children: William, born around 1819; Catherine, born around 1825; Polly, born around 1828; Anna, born around 1831; Phebe, born around 1833; Melinda, born around 1837; Christina, born around 1839; Andrew Jackson, born on March 6, 1840; and Sophia, born around 1844.
They moved to Virginia by the early 1820s, and they settled in Fall Creek, Indiana, by the early 1830s. He probably supported the Democratic Party. Minnick worked as a farmer, and by 1850, he owned $1,000 of real estate. A decade later, he owned $1,500 of real estate and $400 of personal property. He retired in the 1860s, and by 1870, he owned $325 of real estate and $300 of personal property. He died in Middletown, Indiana, on March 2, 1889.
