Stephen S. Conner
Stephen S. Conner was born on October 30, 1845, in Ohio to William and Anna Conner. His father was a farmer who owned $2,000 of real estate and $600 of personal property. He grew up and attended school in Jackson, Ohio.

He enlisted in the Union army on August 19, 1862, and mustered in as a private in Company G of the 114th Ohio Infantry on September 9. He may have lied about his age in order to enlist, as his service records claim he was born in 1844. The regiment took part in the siege of Vicksburg and the Red River campaign. He mustered out in Houston, Texas, on July 31, 1865. He settled in Lancaster, Ohio, after the war and earned a living as a dry goods clerk. He applied for a federal pension in July 1890, complaining of chronic diarrhea, and he eventually secured one. He died in Ohio on January 21, 1894.
