Eliza Jane Pyle (maiden name: Carter) was born around 1839 in Ohio to Grayson Carter and Cassandra Smith. Her father was a coal miner and shoemaker who owned $150 of real estate and $200 of personal property by 1860. The family moved to Jefferson, Pennsylvania, in the 1840s, and by 1860, they were living in Millsboro, Pennsylvania. She married Parker Pyle in the early 1860s. They apparently had no children. By 1880, they were living in Luzerne, Pennsylvania, and her husband was working as a laborer. They moved to Bridgeport, Pennsylvania, in the late 1800s. Her husband died in the early 1900s, and by 1920, she was living with relatives William and Grace John in South Brownsville, Pennsylvania. She died of a fractured femur in Clarksville, Pennsylvania, on May 14, 1929.
