Ruth Hollister (maiden name: Kellogg) was born around 1817 in Connecticut to Elisha and Emily Kellogg. She married Martin T. Hollister around 1836, and they had at least nine children: Eliza, born around 1837; William, born around 1837; Arthur, born around 1841; Emily, born around 1843; Andrew, born around 1845; Martin, born around 1847; Julia, born around 1859; George, born around 1852; and Jane, born around 1858.
They lived in Glastonbury, Connecticut, and her husband worked as a miller and manufacturer. By 1850, they owned $2,500 of real estate, and a decade later, they owned $7,000 of real estate and $4,000 of personal property. Her husband died in 1878, and by 1900, she was living in her daughter Emily’s household in Syracuse, New York. She died on September 26, 1906.
