Dear Mother
Since I wrote last we have made a large move. we took the cars at Manchester and went on south all day on the same track that our boys that were prisoners went on as far as Bucksville Junction there we had to march as far as Farmville eighteen miles. we again took cars up to the James River six miles below Lynchburg and marched the rest of the way. we were three days on the route and arrived in town about nine oclock at night in the rain we slept all night in the rain without our tents we were soaking all night.
It is a verry healthy place here and verry hilly and the blue ridge / mountains are only a short distance off Lynchburg is not a large town about as large as Meriden.
It is said that we were brought up here to get paid off so that the men would not desert so fast I understand that all Conn Regts are at home but the eighth tenth & Eleventh. there is some talk of us going home as soon as the election is over we hope so I want to get out of this gang of robbers it is not safe for a man to leave his tent for fear some of them will carry off his grub or clothes it is not the labor that I want to get rid of for I dont have five minutes work to do in all day excepting to eat.
It is getting rather warm weather and I wish you would buy me a hat and send I want a verry thin / one color white about the same as the one I used to have this measure will just reach around my head get as near that size as you can you can press it together and send it in a package.
I would like to have you send me a little money also
I am feeling pretty well excepting I have the diahorea a little it is hard to get rid of it.
Hodge is as poor as a crowe with it.
I cannot think of much more to write and it is getting dark so I will close from your
