Charles Wells
Charles Wells was born around 1823 in Washington County, New York. He enlisted in the Union army on December 31, 1863, and mustered in as a private in the 14th New York Heavy Artillery later that day. According to his service records, he was 5 feet, 4½ inches tall, with dark hair and dark eyes. The army transferred him to Company C of the 6th New York Heavy Artillery on May 10, 1864. He took part in the Overland Campaign, the siege of Petersburg, and the Appomattox campaign. He mustered out on August 24, 1865, and he died sometime after 1865.
