Clarissa Smith
Clarissa Smith (maiden name: Watkins) was born around 1822 in Ohio to William and Elizabeth Watkins. She married John McMullen, and their son James was born around 1841. Her husband died soon afterward, and she married Nathan Smith on July 25, 1844. They had at least four children: Jacob, born around 1845; Mary, born around 1847; Dorothy, born around 1849; and Phebe, born around 1853. They lived in Union, Indiana, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1850, they owned $1,000 of real estate. They moved to Franklin, Indiana, in the 1850s, and by 1860, they owned $1,500 of real estate and $500 of personal property.
 
Her husband died on March 5, 1861, and she married Henry Raper sometime in the 1860s. Their son Watson was born around 1867. They lived in Franklin, and Raper worked as a farmer. By 1870, they owned $4,280 of real estate and $300 of personal property. Raper died on January 13, 1884. She died of “exhaustion” in Darlington, Indiana, on June 11, 1901.
