Elizabeth Rice
Elizabeth Rice (maiden name: Swain) was born around 1825 in South Carolina. She eventually moved to Georgia, and she married Hales Rice there in the early 1860s. They had at least four children: Sarah, born around 1862; Hales, born around 1864; Emma, born around 1868; and Henrietta, born around 1868. They lived in Chattooga County, Georgia, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1870, they owned $400 of real estate and $300 of personal property. Her husband died in the late 1800s, and by 1900, she was living in her daughter Emma’s household in Summerville, Georgia. She died sometime after 1900.
