Camp Decator Georgia Oct the 24th 1863
Dear wife it is with pleasure I seating seat my self this evening to drop you a few lines to let you know that I am tolerable well at this time hoping these few lines may find you enjoying the same like blesing I am still here in camp yet but I dont know how soon we will leave here we are fairing as well as I expected we draw corn meal & beef to eat & we drill three ours in the run of the day & we also have to stand guard we are below Atlanta five miles in one hundred yards of the Railroad & and we can see the cares runing all times of the day I want you if you can to get some one to stay with you before you are confined if you can & when you get sick I want you to send after a Doctor I want you to rent the field a bove the house to some won to sow in wheat if you can I want you to examin the corn & see if it is hot or likely to spoil & if it is try to get it shuked out I cant say what to do with the hogs but if they ar hard to controal or likely to get off put up some of them any how I want you to be shore to get that salt from Cranmer turn over /
I want you to write to me if you want any instruction a bout any of your affairs I dont want you to take any of the old ishue of confederate money that is the date of 1861 what you have got will pay your tax but it is said here that it will not pass other wise here there is some here that go to furloughs to go home & stay ten days I dont know whether I can get one or not but I will come if I can I want you recconcile your self if you can & get along the verry best you can I written you a letter the 16th of this inst I want you to write as soon as you get this & write whether you have had any thing prest from you or not or is likely to have I want to her from home verry bad I want to see you and my children if I cod I send my respeck to all inquirn frend Direck you letters to Camp Randolf ner Decator Co A So nothing more but I remane yore
