Mary Ann Coleman
Mary Ann Coleman (maiden name: Kennedy) was born around 1815 in South Carolina. She married George W. Coleman on January 27, 1831, and they had at least five children: William, born around 1832; Catherine, born around 1837; Mary Ann, born around 1840; Eugenia, born around 1842; and John Kennedy, born around 1847. They lived in Chester District, South Carolina, and her husband died in the late 1840s. By 1850, she owned $1,500 of real estate as well as eight enslaved laborers. A decade later, she owned $3,500 of real estate and $9,025 of personal property, including at least nine enslaved laborers. By 1870, she owned $8,000 of real estate and $2,000 of personal property. By 1880, she was living with her son John in Chester. She died sometime after 1880.
