Georgiana Louisa Wells
Georgiana Louisa Wells was born in Chicopee, Massachusetts, on April 25, 1843, to Jerome and Louisa Wells. Her father was a merchant who owned $6,000 of real estate and $25,000 of personal property by 1860. She grew up and attended school in Chicopee. By 1860, she was attending high school. She corresponded with Union soldier Frederick B. Doten during the Civil War, and they got married in Chicopee on October 1, 1866. They had at least two children: Jerome, born around 1870; and Florence, born around 1875.
 
They lived in Chicopee, and her husband worked as a bank cashier. By 1880, they employed at least one white servant, and by 1900, they employed two servants. Her husband died on April 9, 1903. On January 26, 1917, she left the country on a months-long excursion to “China and Japan, Manchuria, [and] Korea.” She returned to Chicopee in June 1917. Her health deteriorated on the trip, and she died in Chicopee on October 30, 1919.
