Matthew G. Forman
Matthew G. Forman was born around August 1846 in Ohio to Jonathan and Sally Forman. His father was a farmer who owned $2,700 of real estate and $2,100 of personal property by 1860. He grew up and attended school in Austinburg, Ohio. During the Civil War, he denounced northern “copperheads,” predicting in August 1864 that “the war will not end very soon when there is so many disloyal men in the north.”

He married Sarah D. Calaway on July 4, 1877, and they had at least four children: Earl, born around 1878; Lorne, born around 1882; Blanche, born around 1885; and Ethel, born around 1888. He worked as a farmer, and he employed at least one white servant. His wife died in the late 1800s, and he married Anna McDougald on April 18, 1894. He died in Ashtabula County, Ohio, on January 29, 1915.
