Mr Root Sir,
I received your kind letter last thursday bearing the date of Aug 8th which found me in good health and I hope this will find you in the same fix. Dwight I guess miss Minerva is more easy now days at least I have not been a huckeberring this year thier was not any huckle berries nor not much of any other kind of berries this year. we have had some hot weather along back untill the last three days which it has done nothing but rain I persume to say you have seen some uncomfortly warm weather down / in Dixie by this time.

Dwight I am not a getting so rich up north as you anticipate. There was a good many boys left this town last wendsday for Chatenouga for six months $50. per month wages Alfred R went among the rest.

Thier is 18 men wanting out of this town. I guess that will fecth in some of the copperheads.

Dwight what do you think about the war ending now by the fourth of July and that was over two years ago. I will tell you what I think about it I think the war will not end very soon when there is so many disloyal men in the north.

Lucy Proctor is married to Mr Pinney and he is now principle of G.R.I.

Walker time is out he has been down to Nashville recruting for this town but he met with poor success only got one recruit. Dwight thier is a great time for the boy that have not gone to war Girls is more plenty than they were before this war You must excuse me untill the next time

                                    good bye god Bless you

From your old School mate
                        &
                        Friend
