Elizabeth O’Bryon (maiden name: Beck) was born on October 17, 1832, in Stewart, Pennsylvania, to John Beck and Mary Linderman. She married Benjamin Franklin O’Bryon on June 24, 1858, and they had two children: Charles Godfrey, born on July 12, 1859; and Sarah Eliza, born on April 7, 1862. Their daughter died on March 28, 1864. They briefly lived in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, before settling in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
Her husband served as a sergeant in the 140th Pennsylvania Infantry from August 22, 1862, until May 31, 1864, when he was killed in the Battle of Cold Harbor. She applied for a widow’s pension in August 1864 and eventually secured one at a rate of $8 per month. She worked as a teacher in Uniontown. She died in Uniontown on November 30, 1919, “following a brief illness.”
