Camp Norton Aug 17th 1862
Dearest Wife
Suppose you will hear from me often enough but hopeing a word direct will be cheering—I write We arrived on the camp ground Monday without any unusual occurrence Then commenced camp life our tents were already pitched as left by the 18th Reg. There are ten men in a tent all good fellows in ours The tents are marked ours is marked Shunoe John Geer was in our tent—he was taken with the Cholera [?] yesterday pretty severly He is now at the [?] better. I went into the City the first night had a pass to stay all night but came back to camp & slept with the boys I slept well of course if I did not “get/them” I think of dear Mary & Home but it does not make my present condition miserable but rather makes me happy we shall appreciate home comferts when we get home again cant say whether we shall get home Saturday night or not Tell the widow to keep a stiff upper lip I saw Old Dean yesterday he said was coming down to stay with you & mother he says he will be good to both of you
