Eliza L. Kipp was born on February 17, 1849, in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, to John Kipp and Eliza Keeley. Her father probably died during her childhood, and her mother subsequently married Charles Bawn. They lived in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, and her stepfather worked as a farmer. By 1860, the family owned $1,600 of real estate and $548 of personal property. She never married, and she lived in her stepfather’s household until at least 1880. She remained in Allegheny for the rest of her life, and she died there of apoplexy on March 5, 1914.
