My Dear Wife.
To night I have Recd a very welcome letter from you. The first for a week I have been anxiously waiting for one the whole week. and for that reason have neglected to write. Was glad to hear that you were all well I am in first rate health now. The Brigade that the 21st is in has been gone now over a week. They went on a raid up the Rappahanock river to Fredricksburg but got back to Fort Monroe from there several days ago. Where they have gone now I dont know but expect them back in a few day There has been a review of part of this Corps to day/by Gen. Grant. Our Div. was not out to participate The old hero of Donelson & Decksbury is looking well. He was accompanied by a number of his staff among the rest was Capt Robert Lincoln Gen Ord’s wife & a number of other ladies were present. I did not see Mrs Gen Stanton. I suppose I am cruel that I do not come home Another of my Lieuts went this morning making it impossible for me to leave while he has gone You speak of my bringing home the horse. No that is foolish it belongs to uncle sam & I am accountable for it but the other question. it is Gen. Chas. Devins Comd’g. the 3rd Div. 24th A.C. what used to be the 1st Div of the Old 18th AC. Capt’s Long & Hubbell are both Staff officers on the Brig staff * * * * You did not write what Regt Ed Brown is in please do next time if you know/

I have not much more new to write. Enclosed please find Fifty Dolars I wish you would by a bottle of ink with some of. Pay mother & all other Debts Good bye Mamie Much Love     write soon.
