My Own Dear Mamie
I intended to have written you sooner than this when I wrote you last but for three days past I have been quite sick. Those same old Chill & Fever again last night they made me quite “out of my head” I feel better to day & should feel better still If I could hear from you I have not recd a letter from Mamie since the 12th day of March Just one month to day. If I recolect aright that is longer than I ever neglected to write. But appearances are that neither of us will have to write when we wish to communicate anything in a short time. It is almost useless to mention that since I wrote you last that Lee with the whole army of Northern Va. have surrendered to Gen. Grant. It has caused great rejoycing here as well as at the north Salutes have been fired enough to make one thing that a battle was raging I do not see any prospect for more fighting and do sincerely hope the Peace may be restored/without another life being sacrificed. Seeing the prospect of quiet before me some might think I would not be anxious to leave the Army but I was never so anxious to be at home I hope that we may be mustered out within a month. I am tired of the Army but you know have other reasons for wishing to be at home Enclosed I send you Theatre Bill for the first night the Theatre was open I was there that night Went with the Gen. by invitation & occupied the box with him. Have not been there since. Also send some Confederate money & also some Continental money some of the oldest in existence.
Good bye for the present I
hope to meet you soon
Court.
