My Darling Mamie
Since I wrote you last I have received a very good letter from you. I have been very busy to day & have neglected to write tll just as the mail is going out These hastey letters you must excuse I shall not have occasion to write any in a short time by appearances Last night there was an order in the papers that looks as if we should be home in a few week. The Regt left here several days ago they went away all alone They are going to Charlottville. which is (75) miles from here Most all the Officers & men that were detached from it were sent back before they went off I did not go thought. Saturday I visited the battle field of Drury’s Bluff & yesterday the one at Fair Oaks Peculiar sensations it gives a man to walk over the old ground/
I think the first of June is as late as you need look for me at home. Home! I can hardley contain myself while I write about it Oh what pleasure in anticipation One short month more & then; but I will not anticipate what God grant that nothing may happen to deprive us of the pleasure of meeting within that time. I am quite well now & well guartered. hope I shall not have to change quarters again ‘till I start for home
For the present good bye give my love to mother.
Wait for me to bring it to you Such as I can send though you have in abundance
Courtland
