N. Stonington May 5th 1865.
My Darling.
Your letter of the 26th April I have received. I had begun to fear you was sick or something, as you had not written in such a long time, but it is all right now. Mother has gone to Norwich. Ben came down after her yesterday She will probably stay a week or two I heard yesterday that the 18th and 21st regiments were expected home within a week or two I hope it is so but don’t know if they will let you come as you are on the staff, but at any rate I expect you home with me for good between now and the first of June and I am so happy. I know you will/be home before long and I am so crazy to see you that I can’t stop to write good. I am sorry that you got that fall from your horse. be very careful and not get hurt again for you know you wont have to ride him much longer. I have made up my mind that you are coming home an if you should not come until your time is out I should be terribly disappointed. it is all I can think of. Frank was up yesterday. He is going out to Wisconsin, has hired out for a year. He is going into the lumber business, rafting boards down the Miss. river to St. Louis. He has all his expences paid and board too, and $350 besides. Mother don’t want him to go but he can make more than he can around/here. Jane is down here with me now. I told her that you fell from your horse and she says “probably he was tight” Oh! I forgot Booth is shot I did not know as you would hear of it and I thought I’d tell you. Well I don’t know what to write that will interest you. I hope I shall see you soon I wonder if I can find anything then to talk about. I heard two or three days ago that Herm Hillard had sent his clothes home. so I guess he expects to come home soon. Ben said if he heard when the 21st was coming he should come down after me but I am afraid they will keep you. I hope you will write me whether you expect to come or not.
Good-bye excuse haste
Mary
