New Orleans July 21st 1881
My dear young friend.
At the request of your kind Mother, I take pleasure in informing you that your gallant Father, Major Henry Bryan of the late Confederate States Army, served on my Staff as an Assistant Adjutant & Inspector General during nearly the whole of the late war between the States. He was always active, gallant & brave, discharging his arduous & responsible duties with energy & intelligence./
I placed great reliance in his inspection Reports, which proved, always, to be just & correct.
I am, Your late Father’s
Sincere friend
