Dear Wife, February 19th 1864
I write you a few lins to let you no that I am well at this time hoping when those few lines coms to hand tha may find you enjoying the the same I say to you we have left our old camp & gone to our regments turnd rite ougt in the woods & let tell you we have the colds wether I ever saw in my life we have two or three cases of small pox in the regment I am thinking it will bee all over the regments in ashort time I saw one man shot yestidy for deserting & tha 12 mor tha ar going to shogt in a day or two I never want to see no one shot agan it looks bad to see aman tied to astake and shot I dont surpose we will stay here many days/
Col facrin says if no more of his men dont take the small pox in six or 8 days his is going back to the mountins to take up desirters we have got afine looking regment it numbers some nine hundurd men I must tell you that I am very well sattisfied & I want you to bee as well sattisfied about me as you can I am inhops that I shall get the chance to come home shortly I want to no that is the reason you dont write to me so I remain your dear husband untill Dethe C D Donoho to his Dear wife Direct your letters to Weldon NCa 56th regment NC troops Co H in the care of Capt T G Graves
