Dear Mother,
Your welcome letter was received and read with a great deal of interest. I am glad to hear that Northampton done Pa so much good. I hope he will be entirely clear of those spells by the time you return to Lebanon. I hope to receive a letter from you soon dated at Lebanon. I expect Morrie has gone to Oxford before this time. Laura says that Nelson is studying reading law. We are to have a “grand review” today or tomorrow. We will have to go down town and march all over the place and show off I suppose. We/are to get soft bread tonight. We draw five days rations at a time now while we are lying in camp. Two days of hard bread and three days of soft. We get sugar, coffee, beef, beans, soap, candles, pepper and salt. We are not drawing any salt meat at present. If you want to send anything to me by express there is an office at Marietta and one here I believe or will be one here soon. There was talk about our being paid off some time ago but we have not seen anything of the pay master. The pay-rolls were made out the last month. It is about time he was coming around if he intends to pay us any time soon. I wish he would pay us soon as we all need money here badly. I have got a terrible headache this morning and I will come to a close by saying write soon. I wrote to you on the nineteenth have you received it yet. Write soon to
