                                                                                          Camp Near Petersburg
 
Dear Sister
                        I sit my self down to write you a few lines to let you know I am well and I hope this letter will find you all the same it seams quite fallish here to day it is cold for the time of season it is lonesome here to day in Camp the Regment went out on three days Picket yesterday I dont have any Picket to stand and I am very glad of it I have a very easy time I have no horse to take care of bout all I have to do is stand guard/over the horsis once in three or four days and that is not much George Hutchings did not go on picket for he is not very well Captain Myrick went to the Hospital sick yesterday I tell you I hear good many guns they was firing all to last night near Peters-burg a bout four miles from whare I am in Camp that is as near as I want to be to them good many of the Soldires think the war fighting will be over this fall but I dont see much that looks like it now. but then I hope it will Priscillar I should like to have some of your good Biscut/for my supper but then I know that cant be I get enough to eat such as it is plenty of Coffie Sugar Hard Bread Pork and some times we get few Potatoes and onons fresh meat I shall have pice of Pie and sweet Cake for now and coffie for my supper I bought it of the Baker how does George Bean get a long I should think he would acte quire to have a squaling Youngone a bout when you write I want you to tell me all a bout the folks I think I write oftener then you do I want you to write oftener if you can get time/
 
I dont want you to worry a bout me as long as I am well and clear of fighting I shall keep clear as long as I can you must excuse this simple letter and poore writing and spelling I hope I shall get a letter from you soon I will draw to a close hoping this letter will find you all well write soon
