Dear Sister
in hand this evening I take my pen to write you a few lines it is a nice pleasant eveing the same moon that you see gives light here in Old Virgina we injoye one thing here that you do not that is the Singing of the Frogs they are singing here every night we have had a good deal of rainy weather for the past week and it is very muddy I suppose you have snow in the name of mud.
 
it is the opinion of most every Soldier now that in a few months we shal have piece every thing looks favorable on ower side at the presant time and I hope it will be a true saying that piece is at hand the Rebs are coming/in every night and they say them-selfes that they can not hold out much longer.
 
it comes into my mind very often only think whare I was one year ago this time how thankfull I had ought to be for the prilvige that I have now which then I was deprived of now I get pleanty of to eat and can hear from my friends and I am out of all danger. I am stoping in the old place whare I have been all Winter get along first rate have nothing to do go to bed when I please get up the same I have enough to keep me warm I have some hay on my bunk to lay on I have two Blankets and a Great Coat George Hutchins stopes with me yet and he has another Blanket we can sleep comfortable my butter is not all gon yet that you sent me tell Mary that I gess she did not/think when she put the Candles in the Box that thare would be so much talk about them as they have made one and another one would come in my tent and say whare did you get such m funny looking candles Doctor Stevens happened to come in the tent the other day and saw one of them he said he never saw such a candle before he wanted me to let him have a pice of one and he gave me two hold ones for it and I let another man have a pice.
 
I shall put my new draws on tomorrow that you sent me I have not forgote what I told you when I was at home about when I got payed of I should make you a presant I shall do it some time you tell John if he will get a good nice Chane for that Watch I will pay him some time I would like for you to have a gold one/
 
George is just makeing up the bed I have been looking for a letter from some of you all the wh week I hope I shall get one to morrow you must write as often as once a week if not oftener for I would like to have a letter every day if I could.
 
Priscilla I want you to do as I write first give my love to Father & John & Mary & Lizzie & Ellen & Viny & Joe Brady & Joe [?]gley Miss Lunt & Chs Lunt &c and all the rest of the neigobers keep a good share for your self I have just lit my pipe
 
I cannot think of any thing more to write at presant I am well I will draw this scrabbling to a close hoping this will find you all well and injoying good health
