                                                                        Friend Enoch
I now will try and write you a few lines this afternoon in return for one whitch I received Sometime a go I still continue well and injoy my Self well and hope you are injoying the Same. we are about 20 or 30 miles from where we Stoped last winter we lay up the river further we are within a quarter of a mile of Elises Ford believe the cavelry has had quite a batle it was not fur from/here we cold here the canonadeing very plain I guess they did not make out much on any side any how. well E. I shant be much Sorry when this ends. do you think you shall. we have ben blinded dreadfuly Since this war began I think when it began they fought to setle it but they do not nowdays. they fight and keep this along for money & promotion the oficers do not want it to stop they are making a big thing out of it.
 
They Expect a draft do they not. they will all have to come out here before we whip them out. when they reliesed McClellan they made him out a traitor but I dont see as they do any beter than he did it is my opinion and many/others. (the hole armey as you may say) that Litle George B.—is the man yet! have you got done planting yet, who is a going to help you hay this sumer what is wages this sumer what are they going to be in haying. I guess you will have to wait the three years out before I will have a chance to work for you. I wish you had some of the Cheryes that there is out here they are as thick as the trees can hold I went out last night and ate as many as I cold hold! how do your Stears work this spring. we have some buly old times when we get in a flock of Pigs Sheep or hens you can judge/what follows if you cant I can soon tell you it is a good dinner or Super we are going on picket to night we shall get relieved to morrow night it will be something strange if we don’t have a couple hens or pigs to bring in! our boys have ben in swiming a number of times with the rebs & change papers and coffee for Tobaco. as I have got to the extent of my paper I will bring my leter to a close by wishing you good health and Prosperity                       Yours Truly
