Dear and never forgotten Freelove
It has been a long time since I have had the priveledge of writing to you, but be assured you have not been forgotten for I dont think there is an hour in the day but I am thinking of you and home. I think I wrote last a week ago tomorrow, but since that time we have marched over a long road. we left Frederick City the next morning after I wrote you, and went as far as Berlin Station on the B. & Ohio rail road where we halted for the night the next day we crossed the river on the pontoon bridge and marched 7 miles into Va. that day. the next morning myself and another man with our teams was sent back to berlin station for forage. we got loaded up at five o clock that night and started for the regiment, but while we were gone they got marching orders and we did’nt find them till Friday night when we found them at Warrenton and I tell you we were glad to find them. 15th. well you see how far I got with my letter yesterday. I thought when I begun this letter I should have time to write a long one but I had to go to Warrenton Junction after a load of forage. well now Ill try and finish it. in the first place, I have recd three letters from you since I wrote you last, one written Oct 12th another Oct 26th and the last Nov 2nd the Miniatures look as if they were going to speak, but why speak so diminutively of your own dear self, I dont know as your feelings were different from what they usually are, but some how I did’nt like the ring of that letter you called yourself/old lady. why I showed it to Lieut Cutler and what do you suppose he said, said he she dont look any older than when he last saw her. there now, but you wont speak so again will you as for my health I have been sick for two days and nights with a very bad cold, and what is still worse I had a little great puss bile on the tip end of my nose and I squeezed it wrong and got cold in it and today my nose is, or feels as big as my foot I did’nt sleep a wink last night on account of it. but feel as bad as I may I thought I must and would write any how. I saw the battery boys a day or two ago they are all well as usual I understood yesterday they were going with Banks Expedition, which place of destination is thought to be Texas, and our officers have sent a petition to the General asking to be admitted also but I never want to go and I think before Ill go to Texas Ill desert and come home, would’nt you one week ago last Friday we had a pretty tough snow storm while we were on the march to this place there was 10 inches so the paper states in Baltimore. then you have sold the Cow have you. I think you had ought to got five more dont you. Alb Cox is still at Frederick and I dont know when he will be relieved Lieut Col Dorty is in command. then you think well all be at home in March do you well I hope so I think I would’nt have my hair shingled this winter for you will have a good lot of going out doors to do and I would advise you to keep all you’ve got till spring any way, but do as you think best. then Jonathan has enlisted. I suppose he holds a Commission dont he or did’nt you hear. for the last two weeks we have had rather bleak weather especially the nights. but I hav’nt worn but one shirt at a time yet but I reckon I shall try another/tonight. I suppose I have told you in some of my letters that all the teamsters mess together well the Q.M. sent us out on a foraging expedition and Ill tell you the result in the first place we got ten loads of hay, 20 bushels of corn, seven geese, three turkies, a bag full of apples and about 2.00 cwt of honey, did’nt we do well I hear you say yes. I tell you rebel property is not guarded as much as it was when we were here before the Q.M. has’nt paid us yet, but how do you get along for money if you want any before we get paid off just let me know it and I will do as I done before you asked me how to spell Susans Husbands name well here it is Ewell. my head aches so bad to day I think youll excuse just this once if I dont write any more this time give my love to all and and especially to James Ingrahams folks may the lord bless you always is my Constant prayr so

                                                                                    Goodbye for a little while
                                                                                                yours ever
