Jeremiah Wilsey was born on February 15, 1801, in Dutchess County, New York, to Henry and Sabrina Wilsey. His father was a farmer. The family moved to Bradford County, Pennsylvania, around 1806, and he later moved to Huron County, Ohio. He married Martha Baxter in the 1820s, and they had at least two children: Martha and Jeshuron. His wife died in 1829, and he married Betsey Sanders on March 4, 1830. They had at least seven children: Jane; Eliza, born around 1833; Betsey; Ann, born around 1837; Jeremiah, born around 1840; Henry, born around 1842; and William, born around 1844.
They moved to Woodstock, Michigan, around 1837, and Wilsey worked as a farmer. By 1860, he owned $4,000 of real estate and $600 of personal property. A decade later, he owned $6,400 of real estate and $1,450 of personal property. He died in Woodstock on April 9, 1876.
