Jan. 24th, sunday night
Dear Father and Mother
I hasten to pen you a few lines knowing that you feel anxious to hear how I feel in my new position I feel first rate I did not expect to Come here to the Rappids but the Soldier knows not to day whare he will be tomorrow our Camp they say is better than it is at Detroit as long as I am well I Can stand it first rate fear not for me Ann and the children will be very lonesome without me for a spell. I hope you will assist her all you can in trying to get along tell Eliza and William they will hear from me soon We may stay here a week and maybe two Month, they are paying them and sending them off as fast as they Can to make room for more as they are Comeing in all the time from all parts of the state I have wrote Ann a long letter today which you will read so I will Close this as my Canale is most out hopeing you will be a Father and Mother to me and mine I remain your son
