                                                                        Culpepper C H Va. Feb 11 1864
 
                                                                                    My Dear Mother I have receved your letter of the [?] and wold of ancerd it be fore this but father was a going to send that paper back in is letter and I thought I wold wate a day ore to I sepose that you have heard of the moveing done hear it was what thay call a reconnoissance in force the order cam on friday night the 6 a bout a 11 oclock fore us to be ready to move at three o clock in the morning whe did not like that much I got up a bout 12 oclock and comenced a packing my things a way in my harversack sow as i wold be ready but whe did not start untill until day light sow thare was a ole night sleep loustt Before whe got neare the river whe cold hear the firing whe halted in the woods a bout three miles from the/ river and laid thare all that day and night and all of the nex day and on Monday night whe started fore camp and got thare a bout to oclock prety well tired and throw mud up to our knees in when whe cam in camp nex morning our compny had to gow on picket 20 of us I hop that whe will not hav to do any more marching this winter          Dear Mother I have receved the box all right and safe every thing is fresh i ham very well plesed with it them eggs that I yow sent thare was only one brokin in them I got it on wednsday night be fore super father was in the tent at the time and he got super with us whe had the buckweat cakes warmed up and thay went first rate with the buter the boys in the tent with me sends thare complement to the one that made them Seargent Jacob Falck Charls H. Cooper Thomas Simpson James Hilton the Ginger was al right 2 botels/
 
            Thomas Simpson has got a box on the road it started on Monday William Coocker as not got a box yet i do not now wether it started the same time that [?] did ore not I do not now as i hav any thing more to say at present father and me self are well and I hop this will find yow all the same
