John Hilton
John Hilton was born around 1819 in England. He married a woman named Amelia sometime around 1840, and they had at least three children: James, born around 1843; Mary, born around 1851; and John, born around 1854. They immigrated to America sometime in the 1840s and settled in Philadelphia. Hilton worked as a weaver, and by 1860, he owned $100 of personal property.

He enlisted in the Union army on August 29, 1862, and mustered in as a private in Company K of the 121st Pennsylvania Infantry later that day. He served alongside his son James, who mustered into Company I. The regiment took part in the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Battle of Chancellorsville, the Battle of Gettysburg, the Battle of the Wilderness, the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, the Battle of Cold Harbor, and the siege of Petersburg. Hilton probably mustered out in 1865. He returned to Philadelphia after the war, and by 1870, he owned $3,000 of personal property. He died in Philadelphia on November 20, 1886.
