Kind aunt
as I have neglected writing untill this late hour I feel almost ashamed to do it now but will to venture Hoping this may find you and the children well and comfortable. I am in the very best of health and have bin for some time past and hope to be for the remainder of my term of service well we have got some fine camps here this summer or I should of said winter and we expect to stop here but dont know how it will be and I hope they will for if we dont move from here I shal be most likely to get a furlough and come home/ But if they dont I shal be afraid there wont be eny granted we have drills and perades every day and so forth well the Boys from town are all right except [?] he is sick and is of to Gen Hospt and Edwin B Chase is bad well I dont know of much news to write for the army is quiet and no disturbanc on the line well aunt I have got up a little as High as third Sergeant and now I dont know how long it will be before I will get up Higher well we have bin having some fine weather for a little while past but it rains a little once in a while and then clears of and is somewhat cold and every thing comes up on a snap goods are ofal high here at this time but we have to have some few things and the sutlers just put on a price that will almost kill them./
well I am in hopes to get home for a few days this winter that is if I can and I saw george Brown yesterday and he was well and in good health but he is Capt and is liked very well in his company and all the Boys are in good health I wrote a letter to lawson the other day and it was some saucy, how does his ducky Annette do I saw he mentioned her name in a letter which I saw of his to a certain Person whose name I will not mention well I guess I will close give my love to all the children and to all who inquire after me so now I close for this time except this from your Nephew
