                                                                                                Savana ga Dec 15 1864
 
Sunday                        Dear mother
I received your letter yesterday of the 9th November and was very glad to hear from you we are both well at present and hope this will find you the same we have had a long march since I rote last a march of 300 mils and now we are at savana ga or with too mils of the city the rebs are shooting at us all the time we do not fire back yet we sent in a flag of truce yesterday for the serender of the city and to day the/ rebs sent back an answer to it I do not know what it was we had a nice time coming through we had to forage our living and that was the best that the contary aforded we had to march narly every other nite untill morning we captured a great many horses and muels we had five men taken prisnars their names is Amary Boylan AJ meriman FD Roudenbush those three were of my company milon Robinson Co F Ed Quilon Co E they wer after forage John howe was with them but made his escape/
 
our rations is rice and beef we have plenty of th9is and to morow we expect to get full rations of every thing I see Bill Prier to day he is well and so is the rest of the boys I got a letter from magie and one from John Witherell and one from W Scoon I cant write much this time but will write as often as I can tell magie that she can have my books if she goas to scooll no more this time
