Dear Father & Mother
It is Sunday to day and fealing rather lonsome I thought I mint as well ocupy a little while in of my time to day in trying to write a few lines I am getting along pretty good now have a good appetite I have had some glorious times with the chils & feavers this spring I got some stuff and for the chills about ten days ago and I hent haint had one since and I hope I shant again I sopose of course that the folks are all well to home the same as usual it is agetting to bee very warm/ the sun scorches in the middle of the day but we situated so that we dont have to be out in it much but them boys that are in the 52 & 53 Regts up to Port Hudson have to take it by the Rebbles and musqueters and every thing else this old foundry that we are in is full of fleas flees I never saw one till I come here they will crawl through our cloths very good to make a fellow scratch nights them and the musqueters togather make a good thing of it once in a while a louse I haint got eny news to tell you as I know of that is of eny importance we have got about three hundred prisoners now but thay are prety quiet/ dont say much nor dont dare to When
I want you to send me five dollars when you answer this letter I dont know but that you will think I spend more money than the is eny need of but I have lent forteen dollars I thought that I should have anough to last aspell but I cant get that I have lent till we get paid of next time and I dont want to get entirly out of money if it wont bee of to much trouble to you, I should like it very much we got up this morning at five oclock to have inspection we have an inspection every sunday but not so early as we have today/ we ar having a good time now I go on guard once in fore days and that is all I do but eat if we never have eny harder times than we are having now and I am well I shall bee amonxt you after a while we haint got over sixteen monts to serve to the most and I dont know certain as we have that if our time runs out three years from the time Col Jones got a Commishion to raise a regt it takes of to munts and the Maj says that our time will bee out then but such talk as this sounds to much like the nine monts men talk they are always telling about going home I shall come when the Regt does and not before if I am well till then I dont know as I have got eny thing more to write and what I hove have wrote is not of much acount
