Marcus Bloomfield Leonard
Marcus Bloomfield Leonard was born on February 8, 1821, in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania, to Moses Leonard. The family moved to Springville, New York, soon after he was born, and he grew up and attended school there. He attended the Albany Medical College before transferring to Harvard University, and he earned a medical degree from Harvard in 1848.
 
He married Emeline A. Pierce on October 8, 1849, and their daughter Eva was born around 1851. They lived in Boston, and Leonard worked as a physician. By 1860, he owned $10,000 of real estate and $2,000 of personal property, and he employed at least one white domestic servant. A decade later, he owned $20,000 of real estate and $3,000 of personal property. His wife died on July 11, 1870, and he passed away of consumption in Boston on May 6, 1887.
