Dear Sister a long time has passed Since I have writen you & feal varey sorey to say it but beg to be excused this time it twas not through neglect that I have not writen before but on the account of our duties being more than double as Spring approached us we had the camp to clean whitch was no small chore but after a grate deal of hard work we now have a splended camp but what is still wors have got to soon leave it for some parts unknown by us we have had orders to march whitch some Regts have alredy gon Heded toward Linchburg it may be possabl that we will stay here in this valley the coming summer wall Sister we have glorias knews & have gaind grate victories with in the past 8 days the fall of Richmond created a varey grate excitement in this department & in fact had a varey grate Holoday when we hurd the knews I begin to think the war is near an end things look favorable more so than ever I can see a grate differanc each day by its self/
I think Moke was ingaged as Sheridan was one of the best men in helping do the noble work I feal varey anxious to here from him to know whether he is unharmed or not I wrote to him a short time since but have recd no ans yet Sister I have ben thinking since the fall of Richmond what had become of Ted if he is a live we will soon heare from him I think I have sean number that ware taken prisoners the same time he was missing but can find out nothing of him neather do I think we ever will for I think he is ded all though he may not be thare ware a large number of Rebs came in here last eave 40 I believe they fought there one men on there way to our lines 2 of them ware wounded I have ben out on drill since I comenced this letter have to write a few lines at a time so you must excuse a short letter this time I can think of no more to write this time hopeing to here from you soon give my best wishes to all the folks I will write you soon a gan I remain as ever your loving
