                                                                                                            Dear Sister Clara
I now seat myself to answer your letter wich came to me this morning as I came in from picket I saw the Rebs and heard them speak thay come into our lines evry nite thay say that thay cant stand it lordy thay are nasty loocking felows it seams by your letter that you have not got my letters I have wrote three or four that you have not got. I have been in one battle we was out two days our Ridgemt lost sixty our Company lost ten men wounded and killed I did not get scard our Colonel mane is Fred G Granger the Mager nane Dyer we have no Capt/ our Lieu is mane Hill thaer is to be a Capt chosen. I belong to the (tenth 10) Corps second division & third Brigade our Brigade commanders mane Bell. we are building winter quarters son & Geo. Douglass Lew Miles an is going to tent togethr your apples come in first rate that is the way to farm it Daniels potatoe crop was large but it was nothing what he a going to do. tell Anston & Permelia not to feal to large for pride sometimes have a fall I supose Elen R. teaches in laten I supose Par is Farming like Sam you tell him to pony ride him and keep him true I supose the oxen looks some diferant than wen I left how does them little sn[?] looks/
 
I think your dress is verry hansom you made a nice chois Nat W is well i heard from him the other day he is as fat as pig tell ant betsy he is a looking soldir I have rote all I can think of tell mother to rite to mee give my love all of friends from your
