Dear mother
it is threw mercies of an all wise creator that I am spard this one more oppertunity of droping you afew lines to let you no that I recieved your kind letter and was glad to here that you all was well it found me well and this leaves me the same as to health but my wound is not well yet I am at home at this time my wound is not ddoeing so very well at this time it is worse thurn it was 3 months ago I have nothing of importanc to write to you at this time I have not heare from J. H. sinc the fight begun I heard from him the 3 of this month he was well then I want to here from him very bad I feare he has not got threw safe they had some very hard fighting to do if he did I think I will here from him soon times is pretty hard out here here is so meney women and children and no way to make any thing to Eat I dont hardly no how they will make out but I hope they not suffer for the want of bread you roat that it was hard times out thare it looks like it is hard times every where/ now but I do hope that eare long times will bee better thurn they are now well mother I want to see you so bad it has bin along times sinc I saw you I want to see you all very bad and also I want you to see my little girl she is hard to beet and I think you would say so if you could only git to see her you never said any thing about silas in your letter whether he was still at home or not I would like to see him very well I recon he begins to look pretty old in this time I want you to write to me as often as you can Direct your letters to the same place so I will close by saying that I remain as ever your son

Der aunt in mothers letter I found afew lines from you which I was surprised to see but how ever I was glad to here from you forall that how came you to think about writing to me wonder did mother tell you that she thought you art to write or did you think of it by your self let that bee as it may I was glad to here from you and would like right well to see you if I could you must write more next time you think about it so good day J.
