Thomas M. Whitaker to William Whitaker, 15 January 1862
Jan. 15th/62
Dear Brother
I received a letter from you sometime ago, and will take this opportunity of answering it I have been unable as yet to obtain a furlough. I think from what I hear that the fault lies with the Col. He refused to sign it & ordered the Surgeon not to do so I am applying now for a discharge, but cannot say if I shall meet with any better Success. I have not been able/ to get out of doors yet, the weather keeps so bad. The ground is covered two or three inches thick with snow now. I received Sister’s letter yesterday.
Harry Desaussure has recovered his health & returned to camp.
I will have to stop actually for the want of something to write. With love to all I remain as ever your affect.
Brother
