Friend John
I receive your kind letter the other day but we were a marching & Fighting so that I had not time to answer it sooner. your letter found me well & I hope these few lines will find you all sound [?] well John we had to do some hard fighting since I wrote to you the other time we crossed the Rappahannock river above Fredericksburg. we was under fire about 4 days the first day the rebels drove us back/ about 1 1/2 miles but the next day they had to run there is several of our company wounded & missing none killed that we know of. there is none of the Smoke[?] town boys hurt except Edgar Dindorff he is missing I dont know whether he is killed or taken Prisoner the rest of the boys all got through safe. the 108 O.V.I. was in the Fight to I dont know how many they lost. Jacob Borway is all right yet any how. Fred Liefer is wounded & Dan Stahl is wounded.
John I aint got time to write more but I hope to hear from you before long again & then I will write more to you. Yours Truly
