George W. Wright to Margaret E. Wright, 15 June 1863

Dear Emma
I received your letter yesterday and I am glad to see that you are doing so well In my last I told you that we were under marching orders for Mobile—the same order still hangs over our heads like a terrible thing that is slow but inevetable, not that we dred our destination, on the contrary I prefer it. But each day suspence increases the impatience of the men If we are sent sent to Mobile it will be with a view to service somewhere in your neighborhood, and in that case I will enabled to visit you occasionally Arthur went down to Pensacola a few days ago to see father he says that he was looking remarkably well and in fine spirits, and determined to remain though he spoke of making a visit up the country We get but little news from Vicksburg and I am verry much afraid for its safety. So far we have not been able to arrest their and determined approaches to the city, their sharp shooters now command our outer work and their steaddy progress is certain. We can’t prevent their approach from the front, so our only safety is in what Johnson may accomplish from the front rear. Now it is that we miss the good Jackson who, when the fate of the country was in a [?], always came to the rescue and turned the tide in our favor I will write again soon, my kindest regards to all your good folks A Thousand kisses for you and little ones
