Camp Warren Jan. the 18th 1862
dear Mother
I take the present opertunyty of writeing to you to let you know how I get along which is well and I hope that you are the same O.B. is well and all right our reg. was paid off yesterday and our captain was agoing to send his money by express and he told the boys that if they wanted to send home their money he could and it would not cost us anything so I sent you 45.00 dollars and I sent you 35.00 dollars and O.B. 10.00 he had not been here but 1 1/2 months the first of this / month I thought that it would help you some if not more you will find at Meyrs Hoyet & Lewis and it will be there before you get this for it started this morning and this will not go till to morow and you will not get this till Saturday ma our Company has sent home $3.200.00.00 dollars and I think that they have done first rate dont you if all of the rest of our reg does as well as we have they will send $34,000.00 dollars into Allegany Co. and that is better than could do at home they have sent all of it in treasurey notes but they it is like as good as the wheat we draw our pay the first of / march the boys in our reg are generaly in good health there is but 16 men in the Hospital and from so many men I think it is doing firstrate considering how they have to fare and not being used to it Mother We have got our new Austrean rifels and I heard our Col. say that our boys would see all of the fighting they would want to in less than 4 weeks and what makes me think so is that we got 80,000 catrages with our rifles rifels and they said that we should need them I hope you and all of the children are all well and tell them that I should like to see them all if I / could but I cannot for a long time to come if ever Mother last night as I was standing on guard I could hear the roar of battle and about 1/2 an hour before the battle comenced I saw a half dozen sky rockets go up towards Centerville and then they sent up as many in Washington as signals and I could hear them fight for about 6 hours but I have not heard how they came utt out with them as I have not heard Mother you must write and let me know whether you get the money or not but I must close this from son
