My Dear Sister
                                    I have intended writing an answer to you letter but not having any thing that would interrest you I did not write. As for the tales mr west told on me not knowing what they ware I cannot say whether they ware true or not but one is not that is the boys teasing me I never minded what they say Bob Lee got here last night and brought the socks and I was very much in need of them as someone had stole all of mine and I had to call on Leve now mine has come I will loan him a pair so we will have one pair a piece I would like to have / some more and I would like for you to send me some hankerchiefs we cant by any here we are having a very good time here at this time but I am afread it will not last long as I thing that our resting is mighty near over we live finely when we go on picket especuly on the last post we ware at got three meals a day and milk to boot while on picket we eat at peoples houses and you know we can have a variety here we only have beaf and not more than half what we can eat People care very little about soldiers think they are not any thing but a parcel of wothless puppies or some thing worse I hope we will not go back to meriland any more Gen Stuar has made a nother wonder ful scout in rear of the enemy he took ever horse he could get while hear / in Pensylvania captured 1500 hundred I am very glad we were on picket at the time we have very cool wether rather cool to be without tents but I dont reckon we will have any this winter excep the officers they have them now I suppose you are having fine times with those sodiers but you must not take one till I get home The Yanks came up the charles river this week with four bragades but they herd that old stone wall was coming after them and they took the back track some think they are going to avacuate Harpers Ferry but I do not unless they are going back on the penensalar I think they / will send a large force dow there but will not leave this place open if they go there old stone wall [?] march infantry in Pensylvania and lay waist their country and steal all of their horses jennie said something about my sending my saddle home but it is gone and I will never see it any more Give my love to all and write soon and long letter I remain
