Dear Cousin.
To day is the holy Sabbath and I have nothing to do but write & think of the good times I spent while home on furlough. I tell you Sarah, I did have just a gay old time. I was nine days over my furlough when I got back to the hosp’l but was just in time to escape the examination.

I arrived here on Friday night about half past eight and they finished examining on Saturday. They did not call on me however so I got out very nicely and by / the means have got a good place. I tell you Sarah, it is a good thing to have good friends and I have got some good ones here too.

The Dr. and Ward Master think a great deal of me and you may bet I return their friendship. The Dr. was going to give me a situation as Wardmaster but Dick—the wardmaster—told him Steward St. Clair wanted a man and he said it would be a better place than wardmaster. So he went and saw the Steward and got me a place. I am in the Baggage Room. I dont have much to do and have a pass evry night in the week but one. When there is a lot of Baggage comes in I have to take an inventory of / knapsacks, Haversacks & canteens and their contents and put them away in their check No’s and when any one comes with an order deliver them their Baggage. “Business hours” from nine A.M. till 5 P.M. the rest of the time I am at liberty. I tell you Sarah, it is a good place and I am going to stay my time out here if I can. There is no news to write so you will have to excuse me. I recd a letter from Moke yesterday, and I suppose he is home before this time. Well Sarah I must close for want of news to write. Give my love to Fred, Johnie, Tom Uncle & Aunt accept a share yourself, and write soon to
