Cyrus W. Remington to James H. Harris, 4 October 1863
Morris Island S.C.
Oct 4th 1863
Friend James
I was
verry happy to hear that you enjoyed good health. my health is verry good so far
There is no news of importance this time nor will be until Gen Gillmore gets the batteries done then you will hear from Morris Island again the Navy has not fired a shot in two weeks & no signs of firing for two weeks more
what they keep such a man as this Admiral here for is more than I can see he will not do any thing or let any of the Navy do it So much for our gallant Navy & Admiral. /
I would like to date this letter in Charleston but will have to wait until the next. I would like to be there & tend them Applicants but will have to pospone it until next fall. you must look out & not let the girls get the upper hands of you for I shall not be verry stout when I get home & I shall be afraid my sight will be poor.
I received your paper & sent you one in return & would like to have you send me another for it is hardly so we can get a paper here to see what the news is. Give my respects to Cullin & Wm green your Father & Mother & all enquirring
friends /
write soon & all the
news as it is late I
will close
from Your Old
Friend
