My Dear Mother
                        Your kind & welcom letter I received to day in due season this leavs me well at this time & hope these few lines will find you all the same
 
I had a bout thought before I received a letter from Father that you had forgoten me intireley I was wateing to get a letter from you you say you was a wateing to get one from me I was glad to get a good long letter you can emagine that I was well pleased to get such an interresting / & long looked for letter from my Dear Parents at Home it is the greates pleasure a Soldier gets is to get letters from Home & from Friends well I will mention to you something about the weather that we ar a haveing out here in Old Va
 
we have had very bad & rough weather here lateley we have had two little snow stormes one over a week a go it snowed one night little over 2 inches deep but it did not last long night before last we got a nother one & it rained before it got through with it night before last
 
it snowed & rained yestday all day long & last night it turned round Colder / & frose quite hard last night to day it has been could cold & rough out well you wished to know how my lameness was getting a long that does not troble me as far as that carnsarnes nee the feaver on way I have got to have a good excuse to stay a way from my Regt a bout the forloagh I would like to get one first rate but I will tell you they never give eny here in this camp they all have to be transfured to the Hospital in the first place I should loose my place here I have to go to my Regt when I get back I should have to run my own risk as to that matr I have got a good place to stay & I rather keep it as long as I can eny way this winter / if I can eny thing to stay a way from the front as long as I can I would like to see you the worst way
 
all those that went home had to be transfurd to the Hospital & got them from there I will try my best and get one if a possible thing to but we will wish for the best we can do & when we meet we will make up lost time good news in the pappers every day Thommas & Sherman are doing a good thing it does seem possible to me that this cruel war could not last one year longer never can thear be harder fighting then thear has been this summer it has been a short year to me since I Reinlisted it herdley seems a year but it is the 20th of this month I have to stay my time but it will soon pass away swiftley glide away
 
Mother what a happy day to all when this cruel war is closed what an awful thing thing this Rebellion has been to our Countery Mother how many thear ar that have lost thear Dear Friends that have died & bled for thear Countery on the Battle Field Oh Mother I feel thankful that I am sparred this far & may I be sparred to see this awful Rebellion crushed & to live in peace once more we shall all know how to appreciate it

P.S. mother you said you should look for a good long letter from me well you will get it I shall look for a nother one from you for I like to get good long leter from you I had rather get them then to write one my self write me all the news that is a going on for I am a great critter to allways wanting to know what is a going on great on that as usuale. well I guess you will get enough in this for once excep of much love & excuse all mistakes & write soon so good by
