My Dear Father
            your kind & welcom letter came at hand to day I was glad to hear from you this leaves me well & hope these few lines will find you the same
 
I received also a letter from my friend in Portland. they ar all well at the present time well father in regard to sending me a box I should like one sent very much but as to sending me a pair of boots you need not for I have drawed a pair of Goverment boots am a going to get them taped / they will do me this winter well enough well father I know that you will do all you can for me if you can get me a cheap little box I would like it very much just a taste from Home it would sute me
 
send a little butter little chease a turkey if can be got nutcakes & a few mince pyes little bit tobacto
 
a few pickles & the rest in aples that is all I can think of & enough prehaps more then I had aut to send for father I do not think low of you a toll if you do not send me a box a toll do as you think best & that will be all right it will sute me
 
I would think more of the / Turkey then eny thing else put a good lot of stuffing in it mother when you cook it mother I want you to cook it & when I think am a eatting it I will think of you you need not send eny dryed apple
 
you need not send a very big box send what other thing you ar a mind to well we have got a good batch of snow on the ground now a bout 5 inches
 
I went over to washington yestday on a pass
 
we will get payed in a bout 15 dayes the pay rools have not yet from the front yet the Pay master expected them in every day & thought likeley / he could pay me
 
I will send you some money then I do not know yet wheather I shall get my installment or not well father if you meake up your mind to send me a box send it & soon as you can send a letter by mail when you do the box so I can look for it have you received thos pictures yet that I sent you the battle of wildness & Genl Grant
 
well I cannot think of eny more in this I must rite once more I am in a great hury write soon so good by
