I recd your kind Letter this afternoon and was verry glad to hear from you and that all are well again and most of all that you are comeing over soon. We hope there will no accident happen any of your Family this time to prevent Melvina from comeing I wish you could come sooner too. In regard to Mr Smith I will merely say that I called to see him and delivered him your Message. He told me as far as you are concerned he would like verry well to goe, but that he had an Engagement North to speak which was ahead of / yours. But if he can get out of going North he will goe to Bluffton on Thursday before that time it would be impossible for him to goe.

I feel both glad and Sorry for you in your getting up a Company. I am glad to see you stand up in the defence of Our Country But sorry on account of your Family. But I trust that He who rules the destinies of our Armies will restore you back to your Family safe and well, and Restore to Our Beloved Country Liberty and Peace, and that our Present Afflictions will Prove a Blessing to Our Nation. I have not heard from William Keller for a long time. We are all Well &c—and hopeing you will be / You will be over at the appointed time, I will close this
